During my first semester as a graduate student, I had to make a site visitation to an archive to speak with an archivist. While there, the goal was to learn what the archive’s structure was, how many archivists and other workers they had on staff, what their collections entailed, their standard practices and how much they aligned with best practices for archives and preservation at the time (fall 2019), and the state of the building where the collections were kept.
